Iodine deficiency is the major cause of mental retardation in children. One strategy that is a safe, cost-effective and sustainable to ensure sufficient intake of iodine by all individuals is the use of iodized salt. This study was conducted to assess the pattern of consumption of iodized salt in the households in Central Kalimantan Province. This study was done by analyzing the secondary data obtained from the National Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2013.The results showed that the percentage of households using iodized salt in the Central Kalimantan Province was 90.5%, higher than the national percentage, which was only 77.1%. However, it was spread unevenly among districts/cities and between the rural and urban areas. In addition, adequacy of iodized salt consumption in the households was associated to the educational level ofthe family as well as the family’s socioeconomic level. Households whose members are of higher education are most likely to have Iodized salt in their homes compared to those whose members are illiterate.
